Britney Spears was born December 2, 1981 in McComb, Mississippi. However, she grew up in Kentwood, Louisiana. Britney entered New York City's Professional Performing Arts School when she was only 8 years old.
She auditioned for Disney Channel's Mickey Mouse Club, but was considered too young. A couple years later in 1992, she first appeared on national television as a contestant of Star Search 
and then finally starred in The Mickey Mouse Club from 1993- 1994.Britney signed a recording contract with Jive Records and released her first single when she was only 18 years old. Her first single "...Baby One More Time" was ranked number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 within months of releasing it. From then on, Britney's success grew and she became known as the "pop princess" with her many catchy albums. At age 19, she posed for the cover of Rolling Stones magazine. Her second album was released in 2000 which was debuted as number 1 by selling 1,319,193 copies in the first week. In 2000, she also performed at the MTV Video Music Awards. The release of her third album in 2001 recognized Britney as the only female artist in music history to have her first 3 albums debut at number 1. In 2002, Spears starred in the movie Crossroads, which unfortunately receieved a poor review. 
In 2003, Britney peformed for the third time at the MTV Video Music Awards and also released her fourth album.
In 2004, Britney made the mistake of marrying her childhood friend in Las Vegas which lasted all about 55 hours. She then got engaged to Kevin Federline three months after they met. Britney and Kevin had two children and then got divored in 2006. In the year 2007, Britney Spears went through a very rough time in her life. She struggled with the custody of her children and also attended a couple different rehab centers. Her behavior attracted the paparazzi and many rumors began to spread about Britney. She still managed to release an album within this year which came as a surprise to many. After all of the madness in 2007, Spears began to settle down near the end of 2008 and released her sixth album which debuted at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Britney Spears is ranked as the 8th best selling female recording artist in the United States with over 31 million albums sold.
